Plans for 2005-2006

Expansion to public - In 2005-2006 Academia de Ballet Emmanuel opened its classes to the public and community of Ciudad Juárez. We are hoping that the dance classes will be a tangible way for people to see and hear of God's love for them in a non-threatening environment. This will also provide an opportunity for the dance program to generate some income.

Teachers - In 2005-2006 Academia de Ballet Emmanuel added two new teachers to its faculty: Velia Dominguez Valenzuela and Whitney Anderson. After training since 2001 in the art form, along with their trip to Dallas and the teacher's workshops in July 2005, these young women are ready to now become teachers for the dance program. Velia teaches the evening classes and Whitney teaches the Saturday classes.

"Children of the King" - Christian author Max Lucado wrote a book for children called "Children of the King". Ann Gavit, director of Barbara Driscoll's Ballet School in El Paso, Texas has invited Academia de Ballet Emmanuel to co-perform this story with them in December of 2005. We will have two performances in Juárez, two performances in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and two performances in El Paso. Barbara Driscoll's Ballet School will fund the costumes, music, etc. and give Academia de Ballet Emmanuel the proceeds from the ticket sales. For more information, click here.

Summer Dance Intensive - In July and August of 2006 Academia de Ballet Emmanuel will be hosting a two-week Summer Dance Intensive for dancers throughout Mexico and the U.S. as well as all of the girls of the Children's Home. Christian Guest Artists will come for the two-week intensive to give classes, share their testimony, and share their professional experience with the participants. We are also hoping for this to be one of our major fundraisers for the dance program.

Guest artists - Last year we had such a great experience with all of the guest artists that came to share with us. The children were encouraged, loved, and challenged by their guest teachers and performers. We hope to bring back more guest artists this year to teach workshops in ballet as well as other dance forms, to perform with us, and for our summer dance intensive.

Expanded use of ballet facility - The ballet studio is such a wonderful facility. We hope that we will be able to use it in other ways so that it becomes very busy. I am presently teaching an aerobics class two days a week. We are praying for martial arts for our boys.

Budget 2005-2006

Director Salary - I am hoping for continued support of $200 a week. This last year I received $10,600 from Emmanuel Ministries, $8,680 of which came from income designated for my support from my sponsors and the board project. I will continue to communicate the needs of this ministry with my contacts and will make new contacts as the Lord leads.

Teacher Salary - A dance teacher will make $3 an hour, and we will have two dance teachers; One teacher will be working 8 hours a week = $24/wk. The other teacher will be working 6 hours a week = $18/wk. Total = $42/wk. My hope is that we will have enough outside students to pay the salaries of our two teachers. We may need to subsidize the salaries for this semester but as the word spreads about our program the need for subsidy will decrease. We have printed brochures and have offered coupons in hopes of generating more interest.

Leotards, Tights, Ballet Slippers - The clothing for the children of the home are one of the basic expenses for the year 2005-2006. We usually have around 50 girls from the home every semester. For one girl to participate in Ballet for one year they need one leotard, two pairs of tights, and one pair of ballet slippers. The average cost of a leotard is $5, tights are $4 a pair, and ballet slippers are $12 a pair. So for one child to participate in ballet for one year they need approximately $25 for clothing.

Costumes - All of the costumes we use for special presentations are borrowed or donated. I will continue to put the word out of our need for costumes. Many American dancers have costumes that they only use once or twice. This is an excellent resource. There are also costume companies from which studios order costumes. I plan to contact them this year to see if they have anything extra to donate.

Income Potential - In 2005-2006 we hope to have Academia de Ballet Emmanuel become self sufficient through:

Tuition - The community taking classes will be paying $3 a class
Sponsors - Individual sponsors of the children and my own financial supporters.
Special Contributions - Coming from individuals and corporations throughout the U.S.
"Children of the King" Fundraiser - Academia de Ballet Emmanuel will be receiving the proceeds from all 6 performances of "Children of the King"
Summer Dance Intensive Fundraiser - The summer dance intensive will be a fundraiser to help with costs of Academia de Ballet Emmanuel

Needs -

Immediate - By early November

Mirrors - Our current mirrors transferred to the new facility as well as two more pieces purchased so that the entire space can be filled. Cost $200

Lights - We would like our lights to be hung in the studio so we have proper lighting, especially for the evening classes. We also need to purchase some additional lights. Cost $840

Ballet Barres - We are hoping to find a lightweight barre (either wood or pvc pipe) to hang on the walls of the new facility. Cost $150

Heating/Cooling Systems - We are currently using fans in the new facility. We need a heating system by late October/early November and air conditioning installed by March or April. We do have a unit that does heating and cooling. We need to purchase the ducts and do the installation. Cost $1,500

Mid-term-by Summer

Flooring - we are hoping for a discount or donation on a Marley type floor. This flooring system is expensive but it lasts forever, is great for all kinds of dance, and is transportable. Retail cost of true Marley $7,000. Margaret Kyle, a friend from Minnesota, is researching options for us.

Long Term - in the next year or two
